McGraw-Jones?
Rupert Murdoch's bid for Dow Jones brings back distant memories of an ancient unwelcome takeover attempt--American Express's bid for McGraw Hill back in 1979. Here's a Time article on how my alma mater fought off Amex.
A number of potential merger partners emerged today, but I'm surprised nobody's talked about McGraw-Hill. Why not? McGraw-Hill (the "McGraw-Hill Companies" is the formal name, don't forget) has the wherewithal, if not the will. Terry McGraw, the CEO, is usually fairly conservative on such things, but still.... just wondering.
Brush-off notwithstanding, I doubt that Rupe is going to give up.
